Spend most of your time thinking about God.

William Wordsworth, the poet, wrote that "The world is too much with us." He was right.

The converse is also true: prayer is not with us enough. Thomas Watson said, "the angel fetched Peter out of prison, but it was prayer that fetched the angel."

We must learn to live in the spirit of prayer. The flaming missionary, Henry Martyn judged that he had dedicated too much time to public ministrations and too little to private communion with God.

Hildersam exhorted, "When thou feelest most indisposed to prayer, yield not (to that inclination), but strive and endeavor to pray even when thou thinkest thou canst not pray."

The problem with twentieth century Christianity is that we have all the machinery, and it is grinding away - but without Oil. E.M. Bounds said, "Praying, true praying, costs an outlay of serious attention and time, which flesh and blood do not relish." The believer who is so jealous of his "time" that he does not take time to pray is wasting his time! Saintly John Fletcher's daily greeting was, "Do I meet you praying?"
