It is always right to say "No" to wrong.
It is my view that Queen Vashti is the forgotten heroine of the Book of Esther. Few people seem to consider the context of her refusal.
Her refusal was not the rebellion of a moody, petulant spirit. It was, under the circumstances, quite justifiable. The king's court had been consuming wine "according to every man's pleasure" for seven days.
Esther 1:8 Wine breaks down the moral inhibitions and caused the king to decide upon a foolish and shameful display which would have dishonored both his queen and himself
Vashti had more character than her drunken husband. She injured his pride, deflated his ego and...broke up the orgy!
We need more like Vashti. And more like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
"All things are lawful (for the believer), but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful..."but we are not to be brought under the power of any."
1 Corinthians 6:12 Not the power, or authority, of wine, or pleasure, or public opinion, but the authority of Christ.
There are many worldly voices clamouring for our attention and our allegiance. The sooner we learn which ones to tune out, the more like Jesus we will be. He always said,"No" to Satan (
Luke 4:1-13) and sometimes He even said, "No" to His friends.
Mark 8:33
"Resist the devil and he will flee from you."
James 4:7
It is always right to say "No" to wrong.
