We are happiest when we are working.
There is no such thing as a godly, idle man. He who is habitually idle is not godly for God made man to work. Man is happiest at work.
The Puritans have left us some of the most exhaustive Christian treatises of the church age. They did it by hard work. One of them said, "The great God never sealed any warrants for idleness.
Another wrote, "A lazy spirit is always a losing spirit."
Still another declared, "The reason some people don't recognize opportunity is because it usually comes disguised as hard work."
We are living in a day when amusement and recreation have virtually ceased to be exceptions. They are pretty much the rule - as they were in Rome just before its collapse!
Bible believers find this entertainment syndrome repugnant to their regenerated spirit. The spirit of the Christian missionary is never satisfied to think of recreation as an end in itself. Rather, this evangelistic spirit drives on to Judea, Samaria and...the uttermost parts of the world.
Greatness was not by great men suddenly achieved, But great men, while others slept, were toiling upward in the night." |
